Q:Quarantine requirements for the exportation of dogs/cats from Taiwan.

A:1. The Importation Requirements of Dog and Cat for another Country: Because Taiwan have became rabies-infected country, some regulations for exporting pets to some foreign countries have been changed. If you are planning to take a pet to another country, you should check the most current requirements for imported dogs/cats quarantine. Please contact with the consulate or embassy of your destination country for information about all requirements that you must meet. 
 
2. Preparations for Taking Your Pet to a Foreign Country:After you get all information required by the destination country, please make preparations as followings in advance.

(1) Microchip implantation: Dogs and cats must be individually identified by microchip. Please check which kind of Microchip required by the destination country.

(2) Rabies vaccination: Dogs/cats, at least 91 days old, must be immunized against rabies with inactivated vaccines after the microchip is fitted for not less than 30 days and not more than one year. After vaccination, please get a rabies vaccination certificate issued by a animal hospital or local animal disease control authority
 
(3) Application for import license (permit): To export you dogs/cats to a certain country, you are required to obtain an import license (permit) from the Authority prior to the date of arrival. Please check how long you shall submit the import license before arrival, and how long valid period of the import license (permit) is.

* Certain country: such as New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, South African, Philippine, Malaysia, Japan etc.

(4) Serological test for Blood Test (Measurement of rabies antibody levels):A certain country requires that blood (serum) sample shall be taken from dogs/cats for blood test (neutralizing antibody titration test against rabies). Then blood test against rabies must be carried out at the laboratory designated by the destination country. The results of the blood test shall be equal to or greater than 0.5 IU/ml. Please check how long you shall get the blood test report prior to arrival, and how long valid period of the test report is.
 
* certain country: such as New Zealand, Australia, People's Republic of China, Singapore, Korea etc.

(5) Other preparation: A certain country/zone 1 may require that dogs/cats shall be subjected to test for designated infectious diseases, be vaccinated against designated infectious diseases, or treated for designated parasites. Before you submit exported animal quarantine, please get these the test report or medical document for these vaccination or treatment. Please obtain (download) the veterinary certificate form which be designated by a destination country 2 from the authority (website), if it is required.

* certain country/zone1: such as New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, Finland, South Africa, Hong Kong etc.
* destination country2: such as New Zealand, Australia, Europe Unit, United Kingdom, South Africa, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore etc.

3. Application for a Exported Animal Quarantine Certificate:
    After you make all preparation advised as above, please submit an application to Kaohsiung branch within a week (5 days prior to exportation of dog into USA) prior to shipment with the dogs/cats and the following document,

(1) Rabies vaccination certificate issued by animal hospital or local animal disease control authority should state:
a. The date of vaccination against rabies vaccine (the said date must be more then 30 days but not more than 1 year)
b. The type, the manufacturer, and Lot No. of the rabies vaccine.
c. Microchip number.

(2) A copy of the applicant s passport.

(3) Aircraft booking record

(4) Other document: such as the test report for designated infectious diseases, medical certificate of vaccination or treatment and the veterinary certificate form, if it is required by the destination country.
