Dogs/Cats Export requirement

(In case of any discrepancy between the Chinese text and the English translation thereof, the Chinese text shall govern.)

The procedures for dogs or cats exported from Taiwan should comply with the quarantine rules of the importing country. Owners should inquiry the import requirements with the animal quarantine authority of the importing country. If the importing country requests designated tests, please ask them to provide the designated laboratories. Owners can ask their veterinarian in Taiwan to assist in sampling or sending the samples to the designated laboratories. Procedures for applying export quarantine are as following:

1. According to associated rules, all dogs in this country shall be implanted microchips within 4 months old after birth. However, if the importing country restricts the type of microchip, it is suggested to implant the microchip accepted by the importing country.

2. If the importing country demand that the imported dogs or cats shall be vaccinated against rabies or other diseases (microchip shall have been implanted), a “vaccination certificate” issued by a veterinarian is required. The period between the day of vaccination against rabies and the day of shipment shall be at least 30 days and no more than one year. In the case of a primary vaccination against rabies, it shall be at the age of at least 90 days old. When the importing country’s import regulation of rabies vaccine is different from above-mentioned, the importing country’s import regulation shall be followed.

3. Owners shall bring their dogs or cats, the vaccination certificate (if rabies vaccination or other vaccination is required by the importing country), owners’ ID or passport, and the result of test (if needed by the importing country) to our branch offices or inspection stations of APHIA within 7 days before departure and apply for quarantine to get an official veterinary certificate. Owners can go to branch offices or inspection stations of APHIA near their home for applying, and get the details about the fee or the working time of quarantine.
