The jurisdiction of the Taichung branch includes Taichung City, Nantou County, Changhua County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Chiayi City, and Penghu County, with a total area of 10,775.14 km2 (30.0% of the area of Taiwan) and a population of 6,030,000 (26.2% of the Taiwanese population). Within this area are some of the best lands for agriculture.
This area produces many famous agriculture products such as Huludun rice, Dongshi citrus, Xihu vegetables, Tianwei flowers, Dongding tea, Nantou bananas, Xiluo rice, Dapi pickled mustard, and Dalin orchids.
We carry out import-export inspection and quarantine of animals, plants, and their products in order to promote exportation and protect the health of Taiwanese people and the agricultural environment. We also carry out meat inspection to ensure consumers’ health and protect domestic animals against epidemics. We have developed techniques of plant product inspection and quarantine treatment required for exporting plants and their products, and we work with foreign quarantine officers who come to Taiwan to inspect fresh fruit for export. We have established inspection stations at Penghu and Chiayi to fulfill our mission of carrying out inspection and quarantine of imported and exported animals, plants, and their products.
