Bureau of Animal and Plant Inspection and Quarantine (BAPHIQ) Continues to reinforce “Inspection rules for Animals and Animal products shipped in or out Kimen or Lienchiang County”

Bureau of Animal and Plant Inspection and Quarantine (BAPHIQ) said that all dogs or cats which go in or out Kimen or Lienchiang County shall be immunized with rabies vaccine. And dogs shall be registered.

According to Chinese official reports, 2600 people were infected with rabies in China in 2004. There has been a 25% increase in infection compared with 2003. It shows that rabies is still rampant in China.

Furthermore, the volume of cross-strait traffic is getting bigger after “mini-three links” and smuggling happens at times. In order to prevent rabies in Mainland China from invading Taiwan via Kim en or Lienchiang County, BAPHIQ promulgates “Inspection Rules for Animals and Animal Products Shipped in or out Kimen or Lienchiang County”.

The rules stipulate that dogs or cats shipped in or out Kimen or Lienchiang County shall be immunized with inactivated rabies vaccine; and the period between the day of vaccination and the day of shipment shall be no less than 30 days and no more than 1 year. Meanwhile dogs shall be registered. When owners arrive the airport or harbor, they have to submit applications for passing permission to Kimen or Mazu Inspection Station.

BAPHIQ reminds you to follow “Inspection Rules for Animals and Animal Products Shipped in or out Kimen or Lienchiang County” in order to make your trip go without a hitch. For more information, please visit https://www.baphiq.gov.tw/en/.
